The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines a habit as “a behavior pattern acquired by frequent repetition,” so in a nutshell, if you tell yourself something long enough, it becomes fact.

Graphic for Self-Hypnosis Techniques and TipsPerhaps you (or someone you know) is often heard saying one of the following:

  • I can’t function without my first cup of coffee.
  • Are you kidding? With my stressful job, I HAVE TO smoke.
  • I can eat anything and never gain a pound.
  • I always get stuck in traffic.
  • I guess I’m lucky. Things always work just right for me.
  • I always catch a cold in February.

What they all have in common is a mindset. The individual has conditioned himself to believe this statement, and it is now true. Please note that the aforementioned beliefs are a mixed bag of good thoughts and bad thoughts, but the fact remains, every benefit or problem begins with a thought.

There is no secret to breaking (or making) a habit. It simply requires consistent repetition. A Certified Consulting Hypnotist can easily guide you in the direction of new and positive behavior patterns by reinforcing healthy change in your subconscious mind.

A man smoking a cigarHere’s a little Hypno-trick I offer to my cigarette-smoking clients. If you rely on your continuous “nicotine fix” just to get through a stressful day, you can reprogram yourself with this idea — “I refuse to allow any person or situation to steal my joy. Succumbing to a craving gives away my power. I am a nonsmoker, an ex-smoker, a former smoker.”

In order to really get the idea embedded into your subconscious mind, it is helpful to wear a rubber band around one of your wrists, and each time that old craving rolls around, snap the band and recite your phrase. Take control of the situation and truly believe what you are saying to yourself.

The new, improved subconscious response will eventually take hold and usurp the old knee-jerk reaction of the “stress-equals-a-cigarette” thinking.

Everything depends on your thoughts. Think about what you are thinking about and half the battle is already won.

Hypnosis is one of the best treatments for negative behavior patterns. Using age-old techniques, it is easy to attain a deep state of relaxation, opening the door to a new way of responding to life’s uncertainties. There are no side effects whatsoever as it is completely safe, which is more than can be said for the tobacco, alcohol, and sleeping tablets that many people rely upon to cope with their stressful lives.
